The toy stock is classified with the ‘Torrens System’ which was developed in South Australia.

The Torrens category prefixes that are used in the HCTL are as follows:

64	Pre-Maths	83	Puzzles
65	Science	83	Construction
66	Social Studies	84	Gross Motor
69	Music	84/62	Transport

When you visit the Toy Library you will notice that each category has a colour specifically assigned to it and this makes identifying your selection easier. There is also a picture of each toy kept in picture catalogues, specific to their classification. Members are invited to peruse these to become more familiar with the toy stock. Remembering that at any one time at least half the stock is on loan and you may not realise that there is a toy your child would like to borrow. For a small fee we have a Reservation system for you to use. This is one way for you to secure that special toy.
